John Nevins Elementary School (JNA) is a Seventh-day Adventist educational institution originally founded in 1907. Our mission is to lead our students to Jesus Christ as Friend, Savior, and Lord, while generating a zeal for excellence in academics and citizenship for this earth and eternity. JNA's teachers provide an excellent instructional program in a caring environment. Originally, when the school was founded in 1907, it was known as the Takoma Park Church School at 8 Columbia Avenue. In 1938, the school was rebuilt 2 blocks away at its current location on Elm Avenue and was renamed after the first official Seventh-Day Adventist missionary to Europe, John Nevins Andrews. The building you see today is the result of several additions. The first addition (2 upper and 2 lower classrooms closest to the gate) was completed in 1957. The gymnasium, library, and junior high classrooms were added 1960-1961. The slanted roof portion (3rd floor music room and 4th grade classroom) was the final addition in 1972, which completed the building as seen today. Despite its long history, only 4 people have walked these halls as principal: Miriam G. Tymeson (1933-1978), John Wheaton (1978-1984), Leroy Kuhn (1984-1998), and David Waller (1998-Present).
